Another day and another furniture retailer reporting poor sales in 2008. Now it is the turn of Hagerty to further dampen the market with news that sales were 2.7% down in April.

Obviously this is further bad news for the economy in general as more and more retailers report back with poor figures.

It appears as though manufacturers of flat-packed furniture are being targeted by aggressive eco-warriors.

Eco-warriors are upset with flat-pack makers with regard to utilising too much of the planet's natural resources on furniture that simply does not last.

As a result Eco-warriors are now lobbying governments around the world to step-in and make it law that flat-pack furniture should be banned from market immediately.

Ikea are already very worried with the lobbyists and are said to be looking at pro-active ways of having progressive talks with the activists.

Home and bedroom furniture buyers are beating the credit crunch with offering buyers extra discounts on already discounted furniture.

Home and Bedroom Furniture is wanting to inform people that whilst money is tight they are willing to assit people in gaining new furniture by offering further discounts.

If we are all to beat the credit crunch it makes sense for additional discounts to be given, after all I would rather by shifting furniture with a lower bottom line then seeing no furniture shifting at all.

Marmalade pet care has three pieces of furniture for cats including two chairs and a scratching sculpture.

The cheeky chaise is $139, which for me is a fair amount of money to pay for a cat. I am not sure I would spend that sort of money on myself!

The trouble in the US is causing issues with Indian furniture manufacturers.

Reports from India highlight jobs are being lost as as the furniture manufacturing market has collapsed by as much as 70%.

Could it be the credit crunch could be a silver lining to the planet? With global shipments down, could the consumer hungry markets which take no notice of the condition of the planet now not be so resource hungry.

Bad news for jobs, but good news for the planet.

It appears as though cheap furniture giant Ikea is feeling the pinch as the global credit crunch bites at pockets.

The furniture retailer has experienced a slow-down of sales across its stores in the UK.

This is not exactly a surprise as many people who buy Ikea furniture for 'Buy to Let' properties have simply not 'brought to let'.

The other opinion is people are looking for better quality furniture and are looking for fresh ideas.

Mass produced furniture out of fashion

With planet resources being stretched ever more, it makes sense that production of mass produced furniture should be looked at.

There is an excellent piece in todays Times which highlights designers are moving away from mass produced furniture to one-off creations.

That's all well and good, but there is so much waste with old furniture simply discarded, that more needs to be done in which to use the old.

Mass produced furniture is a problem for the planet and it would be great to see furniture manufacturers doing more to stop depleting the planet of natural resources.
